We publish reported news, practical guides, interviews, first-person pieces, opinion and community coverage. Some pieces are highly current, such as visa or infrastructure updates. Others are slower guides that we revisit as rules, prices or on-the-ground conditions change.
How We Source Information
We use a mix of first-hand experience, interviews, public documents, official websites and clearly attributed third-party reporting. When a topic is time-sensitive, especially visas, healthcare rules, taxes or regulation, we aim to point readers back to the relevant official source or explain where a rule still needs to be confirmed.
We do not invent quotes, sources, statistics or credentials. If a point is based on direct experience or informed opinion rather than formal reporting, we try to make that obvious in the wording.
How Global Guides Are Produced
Global destination guides are desk-researched from primary government, immigration, transport, meteorological, civil-protection, tourism and other official sources. The editorial desk then adds destination-specific comparison and practical judgement. A source panel and fact-check date are visible on every approved global guide.
We do not present desk research as first-hand residence in a destination. Where a page includes local experience, a resident interview or an expert review, we identify that contribution. Guides remain protected from indexing until they clear the site's depth, duplication, sourcing and editorial-approval checks.
Authorship, Review And AI Assistance
Named reporting and first-person pieces carry the relevant author. Source-led destination guides are credited to the Modern Expat Editorial Desk and link back to this method. AI and automation may assist research organisation, drafting, consistency checks, structured data and quality assurance; they are not treated as sources and do not replace editorial responsibility or official verification.
Guides And Updates
Many Modern Expat guides are living pages. We distinguish the first publication date, the date of a material content update and the most recent fact-check. We refresh dates only when the corresponding work has happened. Immigration, work, tax, transport, healthcare and safety sources receive the closest review.

We use natural British English and a direct editorial tone. That means clear sentences, practical detail and writing that still sounds human. We avoid keyword stuffing, fake neutrality and generic filler written to satisfy an algorithm instead of a reader.
